The Brief

We’re proud of our long association with Artfund, the independent British charity which raises funds to aid the acquisition of artworks for the nation. Back in 2013, we produced the Artfund Museum of the Year awards ceremony. We were tasked with providing the set and staging, branding, lighting and audio visual for the presentation.

THE DELIVERY

In addition to installing an elegant stretched-canvas backdrop, we created a specially branded lectern and flanked the stage with two 85-inch plasma screens. Banners displaying the awards shortlist were situated throughout the venue. The event itself was covered by BBC Radio 4, and the space also had to accommodate a drinks reception. A crew of around 25 people ensured everything ran smoothly and efficiently.

The response

The event was a successful and memorable one, with Walthamstow’s inspirational and celebratory William Morris Gallery winning the prize for Museum of the Year. “We had some great feedback – and since this event we’ve continued to work with Artfund,” says Anthony. “I think we've grown together, taking the production and steer of these awards to ever more sophisticated levels.”

The inside story

Production Designer Anthony Van-Sertima was central to the team. “This was a particularly interesting and challenging project” he says. “Not only did we have to ensure everything was in place for the live broadcast, we could only work at certain times due to a press embargo. What’s more, we had to make sure the drinks reception was delivered in a short space of time too. It was intense, but our hard work paid off.”
