The Challenge
The Wall Street Journal CEO Council brings together the world’s most influential business leaders to discuss pressing topics in industry, policy and the global economy.
This annual event traditionally takes place in a prestigious London hotel, however, due to COVID restrictions, the Dow Jones team took steps to transform the event into an online experience. It was essential that the event had the same impact as its’ live counterpart, recreating the exclusive members club feel. To add to the challenge this needed to be achieved with a four week lead time.
Our Response
With audience experience at the forefront, we developed a live studio show concept. Broadcasting centrally from our London studios we seamlessly linked presenters and panellists from all over the globe, allowing the same in-depth discussion and debate as would have been expected from the live experience.
The set was a custom design and build, comprising sleek wood panelling for a contemporary feel consistent with previous years. Anchor, WSJ EMEA Editor Thorold Barker, successfully hosted the show with our skilled technicians pulling everything together from our dedicated control room.
The Experience
Our in-house team managed the seamless running of the show, working with remote speakers for rehearsals in advance and calmly guiding them through the process on the day of the broadcast.
In between live features, we mixed VT’s and branded content to introduce each presenter. The live stream was broadcast to multiple sources, including a bespoke event platform, wsj.com, Twitter and a press feed.
Once the event was complete, we produced fast-turnaround edits for newsroom access and on-demand viewing.
The Impact
Produced in our studios, the 9 hour continuous live show featured over 30 A-list panellists including Bill Gates, John Bolton and Christine Lagarde and reached over 150 executives across the globe.
