The Vice Chancellor’s Annual Address
Live Stream
Dating back over 800 years, the Vice Chancellor’s Annual Address marks the opening of each new academic year. Within the address, the Vice-Chancellor sets out the University’s ambitions and plans for the year ahead.
Traditionally delivered to a physical audience, due to circumstances this year, the University of Cambridge turned to Event Concept to live stream the speech for the first time ever, allowing alumni around the world to join in real-time.
We designed a flexible remote broadcast solution to live stream from Senate House, a prestigious Grade I listed building within the University’s grounds.
Following strict social distancing measures, our producers safely managed all onsite installation and rehearsals. We provided broadcast-quality cameras, lighting and audio equipment, along with auto-cue to create a professional and polished address.
During the speech we mixed between multiple camera shots which were punctuated with imagery and videos to animate the 30 minute live stream.
We live streamed from our outside broadcast unit to an audience of over 10,000 viewers on YouTube and Facebook, along with a very small select socially distanced audience in the room.
Following six successful months of online digital events with the Cambridge University team, this was the first major broadcast from a live venue since lockdown.
