TATE BRITAIN, ENTIRE VENUE
Arguably one of the most fabulous fashion parties of the year, the ELLE Style Awards attracts an incredibly chic list of fashion icons. When asked to deliver 2016’s event in the equally iconic Tate Britain, we were determined to create an electric atmosphere via devising installations and staging that worked in harmony with this Grade Ι listed building.
We raised the bar, which means that there’ll be even more innovation in the future.
By using simple, minimalistic neon lighting throughout the venue, we created an exceptionally cool and contemporary setting. To enter the principal space, guests walked through a ‘living forest’ of neon tubes – which rotated randomly on media spinners to create a dynamic and impactful effect. We also created an impressive floating grid of ‘neon’ tubes as the dramatic backdrop for the main stage.
“It was great to do something different,” says James Connell. “We raised the bar, which means that there’ll be even more innovation in the future.” Lucky Blue Smith picked up the Male Model of the Year award, while Jourdan Dunn was accoladed as the Style Influencer of the Year. All Saints came back together for a surprise performance and Lion Babe set the dance floor on fire.
While real neon tubes were fitted across the venue, this wasn’t possible for the stage as the light had to be controlled for filming. James Connell, Head of Lighting and Technical Production, explains our solution: “We installed dimmable LEDs within frosted tubes and connected them to our system. To replicate the real thing, a truss was built that ensured the wires were hidden by the structure of the building."
