The Brief

To support an innovative Christmas social media campaign, McDonald’s asked us to produce two specially customised Black cabs. These would travel across three cities over two weeks, capturing as much silly sing-a-long footage from passengers as possible. After encouraging the British public to share their karaoke skills, the best footage would be featured in a prime time Christmas Day TV advert.


The cabs – or ‘cab-i-okes’ – were designed and fully branded as McDonald’s vehicles by Senior Production Designer, Kate Henshaw. Each was complete with an internal, touchscreen Karaoke interface and GoPro camera setup. Each cab was accompanied by a dedicated brand ambassador, wearing a bespoke cab-i-oke uniform and carrying a ‘Catch the cab-i-oke’ lollipop sign.

The inside story

Working with pre-arranged drop-off and pick-up locations, the cabs took their passengers on free inner-city journeys. From families to students and even the elderly, the cabs took a multitude of passengers on journeys across London, Edinburgh and Cardiff. This was the true definition of an experiential campaign, full of fun and festive cheer.
